Now there is something to think about…
So many great writers and teachers have discussed the theory or law that our thoughts or imagination have brought our current existence and experience to us, including Einstein, Earl Nightingale, Napoleon Hill, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Oprah Winfrey, Jim Carrey, Will Smith and so many more…
Taking responsibility for where we are in our lives is not an easy thing to do. Look around you, are you content? Do you harbor feelings of blame towards anyone for a situation? After all, how can we say that a young child neglected, or a person going through a horrific event is to be at fault. You don’t, you start where you are right now. Reflect, what are your thoughts about, are you wishing and wishing but not believing?
I first read ‘The secret’ by Rhonda Byrne more than 8 years ago and my life has changed inconceivably since then, I would not have dreamed I would be living where I am, having the opportunities or working where I am, having the income I have. We all want a magic bullet and many people go and buy the book and read it and then what? A number of things happen in my observations. People tend to believe the law or at least really want to, and know it makes sense, they feel it, they start to go about focusing on what they want, they may even achieve a few and then they forget about the secret. Where has it gone wrong? It works, and it can bring good things to you and so why has it failed?
I can tell you exactly why, because I have experienced it myself so many times. I first read ‘the secret’ and wrote 7 things into a thank you card, that I wanted to achieve, and looked at them, morning and night. Within 3 years all of them were now part of my experience. This is no magic bullet, this is the law of nature, what we focus on we bring on. It is not some amazing trick, it still means you follow through on the work needed to bring your dreams into existence, you just have the discipline, you just find you are noticing the opportunities that you would have missed had you not had the attention there.
When we think of it as some crazy illusion we lose belief, remember that energy flows where your attention goes. Think about how much energy you put into good things in your life on a daily basis.
And so this leads us to why it is not so easy to keep believing. You judge most if not all situations by your past experiences. If someone asks you to stand up and walk, you know this is possible because you have done it before. If someone asks you to get up and fly, straight away you say it is impossible. This may seem an extreme explanation, but hopefully, you get the point, you find it difficult to believe anything that has not been in your life so far. Those who have a great imagination find themselves much better at bringing their dreams into existence. As Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge”.
Most of us have a story, a past which has involved fear, loss of confidence or self-esteem or worse. We have a choice now, do we work on releasing the fear, move forward and challenge ourselves, learning and understanding who we are, what we are really capable of or do we fill our lives with numbing tools to forget and to bury self-loathing?
I didn’t understand this choice for so many years and was the victim. I blamed others but most of all myself for my self-loathing, I chose to binge eat to numb any feelings of fear. When you decide you want to feel good, the opportunities start to appear, when you decide to love yourself, in no ego-centered sense, but really accept, embrace and forgive yourself, your life does change. This is not an easy process, you need to brainwash yourself! Yes, I meant brainwashing, after all, this is what has happened to you. You were born an innocent and you took on all of the fears and paradigms of those around you. It is time to find out what you think and what you really believe, releasing the beliefs and habits that you have inherited. This of course takes time, it takes tools, new habits, and strategies, reading, listening and learning. And this is why we can fail to keep believing in the secret, it can seem hard work to shake off the fear and easier to reach for that vice e.g. the alcohol, the food, the drugs, the cigarettes etc. Short term win for long-term losses, or short-term work for long-term gain? Do you choose love or fear? That is the choice.
My hope is that my narrative has helped you in some way to go back to the belief that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, especially if you have doubt. To know that I still have doubt most days with the understanding that it is all a process, it is not about perfection it is all about progress. Reading materials that feed my mind such as ‘The strangest secret’ by Earl Nightingale and ‘The path’ by Ivan King and listening to Wayne Dyer or Marianne Williamson. In all, knowing that I can achieve anything and so can you.
